Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus India Launch: Pre-Orders and High Pricing (2015)
In early October 2015, Apple's premium retail partners across India — including iNvent and other authorised resellers — commenced pre-orders for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus ahead of an official launch date on October 16. Customers placed advance reservation deposits of Rs 10,000 to secure their units on launch day.
Pricing Realities in the Indian Market
The iPhone 6s debuted with launch pricing starting at approximately Rs 62,000 for the base 16 GB model, while top-tier 128 GB iPhone 6s Plus configurations reached upwards of Rs 92,000. Due to currency exchange rates, import duties, and local taxes, Indian retail prices were approximately Rs 14,000 to Rs 16,000 higher than equivalent launch prices in the United States and the Middle East.
Key Architectural Upgrades
Despite the high price barrier, the 6s series generated substantial interest thanks to the A9 chipset, 3D Touch pressure-sensitive displays, upgraded 12 MP cameras capable of 4K video recording, and a fortified 7000-series aluminium chassis designed to prevent structural bending.
